Work From Home Tips During the COVID-19 Quarantine
The Coronavirus Pandemic has caused many people to leave their workplace and instead work from home. Some cities and states have mandated “Shelter in Place” policies requiring many employees to stay home for the safety of their health while still maintaining work-related productivity.
Next Gen Neuro is a 100% remotely staffed organization. From our interns, to our clinicians, and all the way to the CEO, we understand how difficult the transition can be when you are not used to working from home. We would like to offer a few tips to help you during this difficult time.
Tips For Working From Home
Even though working from home has kept people from spreading or obtaining the virus, there have been a few disadvantages to this lifestyle shift:
Communication between coworkers and customers who are not used to connecting fully remote are feeling a strain in relationship management
Feeling lonely can became a consequence of working from home, where interactions with others are limited to the virtual world.
Followed by depression and lack of motivation due to loneliness, which causes a drop in the quality of work.
Be Articulate When Communicating Digitally
There are a few simple ways in which to overcome these obstacles during this pandemic. Talking to someone through a digital platform is not the same as talking to a person face to face. There is a lot of nonverbal information that is non-accessible when talking to someone on a digital platform; therefore, it is important to be as clear as possible when articulating your thoughts and ideas.
Create Structure in Your Daily Routine
It is a good idea to structure your day in order to keep your mind and body healthy. Other than blocking out time for work, also schedule time for exercising or enjoying a hobby. Designate a place in your home where your mind can associate that location with work. This makes it easier to get work done at home, which is typically emotionally associated with relaxation.
Check-in with Your Team Regularly
Creating regular check-ins between management and teams is an effective way of ensuring employees have a regular time to voice concerns, ask questions, and give feedback about daily tasks. Daily check-ins also help build a stronger cohesion with your team during a time when you are apart. TeamNGN uses Go-To-Meeting and Microsoft Teams to have video chats, which keeps our team feeling more connected.
Never Underestimate the Importance of Having Fun
Working from home during a crisis can be incredibly stressful; especially for employees that thrive off of a social dynamic. It is important to help employees focus on tasks and remain professional. It is equally important, however, to ensure employees have a way to relieve stress and have fun.
Add a “watercooler” style group chat where employees can have non-work related conversations or add funny pictures or memes to brighten everyone’s spirits. Our team discusses non-work related topics on our internal social media page, and we send out a weekly email with fun updates and memes! You can also incorporate daily or weekly competitions or games to build team cohesion while relieving stress.
